After the new novel SHANTI - THE HOLY CITY (to be released in Q2 2019), signed other two contract with cult horror publisher Necro Publications, for the new collection THE RADIOACTIVE BRIDE (to be released in Q3 2019) and the new novel NEW SODOM (to be released in Q2 2020).

Recensione di Silvia Riccò, per Horror Dipendenza, del romanzo 'Il Custode di Chernobyl' (Cut Up Publishing, Dicembre 2018):
Abbiamo più volte parlato di Alessandro Manzetti e delle sue opere estreme ed apocalittiche firmate con lo pseudonimo "Caleb Battiago", il suo immorale alter ego. Manzetti questa volta mette da parte futuri distopici e perversi, e proietta la sua storia nel passato, durante la guerra fredda, per raccontarci in chiave horror/fantascientifica complotti e segreti celati dal governo sovietico. Il romanzo ha forma di diario e capitolo dopo capitolo ci addentriamo nella psiche del dottor Petrov, un uomo brillante ma tormentato dalla solitudine e dal senso di colpa per la morte della figlia; tutto ciò che rimane della sua esistenza è la ricerca a cui sta lavorando. Petrov è una sorta Victor Frankenstein al plutonio: gli omaggi all'opera di Mary Shelley sono molteplici, a partire dal nome del progetto denominato "Prometeo". Nel laboratorio bunker in cui è rinchiuso con gli altri scienziati forgiano mostri. Sprovveduti contadini delle campagne circostanti si offrono volontari per il trattamento sperimentale, ignari di ciò che realmente li attende. La maggior parte di essi finisce disciolta nelle piscine di proto-liquido o cotta dalle radiazioni; altri, forse ancora più sfortunati, sono gli "aborti", pazienti refrattari al trattamento sui quali i test hanno portato mutazioni impreviste. Molti degli umani potenziati sviluppano altri effetti collaterali oltre all'aspetto mostruoso: un comportamento aggressivo, ferino, e un insaziabile appetito per il cervello umano. Il dottore è fra tutti quello che sta portando i risultati più positivi: i soggetti dei suoi esperimenti, Konstantin e Boni, stanno rispondendo nel migliore dei modi alle insostenibili torture a cui li ha sottoposti ed è ad un passo dal creare i nuovi Adamo ed Eva di un apocalittico Eden. Finisce per legarsi a Boni, l'eterea ragazzina di Kiev, la sua musa, in cui rivede la figlia e verso la quale sviluppa un amore paterno, e non solo. Quando il dottore viene sospeso dal lavoro, tutto ciò che lo teneva aggrappato alla realtà, sprofonda in un vortice di alcolismo e follia. Gli anni passano ma ancora ha visioni della ragazzina di Kiev, e la sua esistenza non può dirsi completa fin a quando il cerchio non si sarà chiuso. Il custode di Chernobyl è dunque un romanzo struggente ed introspettivo: solitudine, senso di colpa, amore e ossessione, il tempo che sfugge, sono tematiche affrontate con la consueta cupa poetica dell'autore che ci trascina nei meandri più oscuri dell'animo umano. Ne Il custode di Chernobyl troviamo elementi classici della narrativa di Battiago, come radiazioni, mutazioni o la prospettiva di un'apocalisse incombente o già in corso. Non mancano ovviamente anche momenti prettamente horror: mostri deformi, crani svuotati, omicidi e torture. Non si indugia però eccessivamente sul particolare macabro; a creare disagio è soprattutto la freddezza scientifica ed il distacco con il quale Petrov narra i folli esperimenti a cui sono sottoposte le cavie. L'opera si discosta quindi dagli eccessi dei precedenti romanzi dell'autore ed è adatto ad un pubblico più ampio. Nonostante ciò, in momenti particolarmente onirici o violenti, l'eretico Battiago sembra voler prendere il controllo, venendo riacciuffato in extremis da Manzetti che lo rimette prontamente nella sua gabbia. Un romanzo intrigante e suggestivo adatto anche a chi volesse avvicinarsi al mondo di Manzetti /Battiago senza eccessivi shock. Acquista il libro sullo store dell'editore |
